Associate of Science in General Studies - Military Studies

Military Studies Concentration

The Associate of Science in General Studies - Military Studies concentration is designed to develop unique leadership skills necessary for students pursuing careers in the military. The rigorous, dedicated, and focused education afforded by this program also prepares a student to apply these skills in other related fields and in real-life practical and complex situations.

 

This program does not lead to additional licensure or certification.  As such, CTU has made no determination regarding prerequisites for licensure or certification in any state or jurisdiction.

Outcomes

The ASGS Program prepares the student with:

  • Oral and written communication skills required for professional settings
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills necessary for effective leadership in the workplace
  • A comprehensive knowledge base necessary for continued academic and professional development

The ASGS: Military Studies Concentration prepares the student with:

  • The knowledge base necessary for continued academic and professional development in military, national security, or private sector areas

ASGS Program Competencies:

  • Identify ethical standards appropriate to academic and professional settings
  • Write appropriately for academic and professional situations
  • Demonstrate effective oral communication skills
  • Recognize different perspectives and identify strategies for effective interaction
  • Demonstrate the ability to locate, evaluate, and utilize information effectively
  • Recognize complex problems and apply logical strategies to solve them
  • Demonstrate the rhetorical ability to shape perception in professional settings

ASGS: Military Studies Concentration Competencies:

  • Identify the different levels of military strategy and their purpose in focus and application
  • Discuss the complexity of leadership in warfare and conflict within an uncertain and globalized environment
  • Identify the precepts of military ethics and their application in conflict within the ranks and in broader and complex situations
  • Examine differing cultural perspectives as they apply to warfare and conflict
