MILT120 American Foreign Policy

This course will survey the various historical alliances, conflicts, controversies, and doctrines from the beginning of the Cold War to the present which have shaped the modern era of American Foreign Policy.  Particular emphasis will be placed on the following topics: Russian – United States Relations during the Cold War and post-Cold War Era, U.S.-Israeli diplomacy, American foreign relations with nations of the Middle East, U.S.-Chinese relations, and the U.S. membership with the United Nations and its utilization of the UN and other international organizations as an instrument for diplomacy.  Other topics of discussion will include the ethics of interventionism, pre-emptive war, and covert international surveillance.
