Master of Science in Cybersecurity Policy

The Master of Science in Cybersecurity Policy is a 48-credit-hour program that is offered online. The program consists of 28 credit hours of IT, CS and management courses with 20 credit hours dedicated specifically to cybersecurity policy.

The program is designed for students focused on pursuing management careers to oversee cybersecurity policy within the public or private sector. The objective is to develop a degree of literacy in technical issues combined with advanced knowledge of strategic threats, law, and management methodologies.

 

This program does not lead to additional licensure or certification.  As such, CTU has made no determination regarding prerequisites for licensure or certification in any state or jurisdiction.

Mission Statement

The mission of the College of Security Studies is to offer degrees in criminal justice, homeland security, and cybersecurity to create the professionals that will address issues these fields are facing today and likely to confront tomorrow. The College anticipates industry and enterprise trends that have significant societal impact in order to provide diverse programs that cultivate professional competencies, critical-thinking, ethical decision-making, and cultural sensitivity to promote social justice and global security.

Program Accreditation and Alignments

National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security

The Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency have recognized Colorado Technical University as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance and Cyber Defense (CAE IA/CD). The CTU cyber security curriculum was certified thereby to map to the DHS/NSA cybersecurity knowledge units.

This CAE IA/CD designation is applicable to this degree program.

Outcomes

Master of Science in Cybersecurity Policy Outcomes

  • Possess the knowledge in cybersecurity policy issues to be able to fill a leadership or other non-technical cybersecurity-related role in government or business
  • Possess the skills to cope with policy-level decision-making with respect to cybersecurity issues in the public or private sectors
  • Be able to understand threats, vulnerabilities, and policy options in a non-technical leadership role in cybersecurity policy
  • Analyze and develop strategies for improving organizational processes and operations
  • Develop effective enterprise level security policies, standards and procedures
  • Define technical requirements for the implementation of an effective security infrastructure
  • Synthesize core components of law and policy that are implicated in inter-disciplinary approaches to cybersecurity policy
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of network security issues, network, hardware, software, and communication vulnerabilities
  • Recognize how the organization of the enterprise is integrated with the structure of security architecture
  • Identify the security concerns in each phase of the system lifecycle
  • Compare competing cybersecurity governance structures
  • Evaluate challenges to establishment of comprehensive cybersecurity policy within competing government agencies and the private sector
