Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice - Homeland Security and Emergency Management Concentration

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Homeland Security and Emergency Management is a 182-credit-hour program that is offered online and at the Colorado Springs campus. The program consists of 66 credit hours of general education requirements; 28 credit hours devoted to the criminal justice core; and 88 credit hours for the homeland security and emergency management concentration.

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) with a concentration in Homeland Security and Emergency Management degree program was developed in partnership with the Center for Homeland Defense and Security, Naval Postgraduate School. This program is designed for criminal justice professionals seeking to begin or advance a career in the law enforcement, corrections, or judicial fields. The “All-Hazards” approach to Homeland Security training and education is designed to help students acquire an additional understanding of emergency management, technology, communications, intelligence, critical infrastructure, and the threat of terrorism for a wide range of government and private organizations.

 

This program does not lead to additional licensure or certification.  As such, CTU has made no determination regarding prerequisites for licensure or certification in any state or jurisdiction.

Mission Statement

The mission of the College of Security Studies is to offer degrees in criminal justice, homeland security, and cybersecurity to create the professionals that will address issues these fields are facing today and likely to confront tomorrow. The College anticipates industry and enterprise trends that have significant societal impact in order to provide diverse programs that cultivate professional competencies, critical-thinking, ethical decision-making, and cultural sensitivity to promote social justice and global security.

  • Identify basic concepts relating to law enforcement, corrections and the courts

  • Show comprehension of the need for interactions between the community and the criminal justice system that honors inclusion, diversity, and equity

BSCJ-HSEM Concentration Outcome:

  • Apply the fundamentals of homeland security and emergency management to create plans, analyze risk, and propose solutions for technology and critical infrastructure protection
