Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice - Cybercrime and Security Concentration

Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice - Cybercrime and Security Concentration The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Cybercrime and Security is a 182-credit-hour program that is offered online and at the Colorado campuses. The program consists of 66 credit hours of general education requirements; 56 credit hours devoted to the criminal justice core; and 60 credit hours for the cybercrime and security concentration.

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) with a concentration in Cybercrime and Security (CCS) is designed to provide a solid foundation in law enforcement, the courts, and corrections, while helping students develop a baseline understanding of one of the emerging types of 21st century crime. The concentration is designed to provide a basic understanding and literacy of computer networks and their vulnerabilities along with material examining risk management as well as terrorism and criminal threats.

 

This program does not lead to additional licensure or certification.  As such, CTU has made no determination regarding prerequisites for licensure or certification in any state or jurisdiction.

Mission Statement

The mission of the College of Security Studies is to offer degrees in criminal justice, homeland security, and cybersecurity to create the professionals that will address issues these fields are facing today and likely to confront tomorrow. The College anticipates industry and enterprise trends that have significant societal impact in order to provide diverse programs that cultivate professional competencies, critical-thinking, ethical decision-making, and cultural sensitivity to promote social justice and global security.

 

Program Accreditation and Alignments

The Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency have recognized Colorado Technical University as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance and Cyber Defense (CAE IA/CD). The CTU cyber security curriculum was certified thereby to map to the DHS/NSA cybersecurity knowledge units.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of criminal justice principles
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the psychological and sociological dimensions of human behavior and crime
  • Identify basic concepts relating to law enforcement, corrections and the courts
  • Examine and integrate the emerging trends in the criminal justice system
  • Show comprehension of the need for interactions between the community and the criminal justice system that honors inclusion, diversity, and equity

BSCJ-CCS Concentration Outcomes:

  • Cyber Investigation: Applies tactics, techniques, and procedures for a full range of investigative tools and processes to include, but not limited to, interview and interrogation techniques, surveillance, counter surveillance, and surveillance detection, and appropriately balances the benefits of prosecution versus intelligence gathering
  • Digital Forensics: Collects, processes, preserves, analyzes, and presents computer-related evidence in support of network vulnerability mitigation, and/or criminal, fraud, counterintelligence or law enforcement investigations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the activities of the cybercrime and cybersecurity professional in the context of the criminal justice system
