HIST104 American History II: From Reconstruction to World War II

This course will survey Modern American history from the end of Reconstruction through the Second World War. Emphasis will be given to questions of immigration and ethnicity; social and political change; and the rise of the United States to world power status. Topics to be covered include: Reconstruction and the establishment of the Jim Crow system in the American South; the closing of the frontier and the emergence of imperialism; industrial growth and ‘The Gilded Age;’ immigration; suffrage; economic expansion and depression; labor unrest and militancy; and the 20th Century World Wars and their aftermath.
