Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice - Forensic Investigation Concentration

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) with a concentration in Forensic Investigation (FI) is a 182-credit-hour program that is offered at the Colorado Springs campus. The program consists of 66 credit hours of general education requirements; 56 credit hours devoted to the criminal justice core; and 60 credit hours for the forensic investigation concentration.

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Forensic Investigation degree program is designed for criminal justice professionals seeking to begin or advance a career in the law enforcement, corrections, or judicial fields. The BSCJ-FI also helps the student develop a foundational forensic investigative knowledge and skill base. Combining the best of theory and practice, the BSCJ with a concentration in Forensic Investigation is designed to provide the student with opportunities through lab and practicum experiences in the investigation of crimes and criminal profiling.

 

This program does not lead to additional licensure or certification.  As such, CTU has made no determination regarding prerequisites for licensure or certification in any state or jurisdiction.

BSCJ Program Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate knowledge and application of criminal justice principles
2. Demonstrate knowledge of the psychological and sociological dimensions of human behavior and crime
3. Identify basic concepts relating to law enforcement, corrections and the courts
4. Examine and integrate the emerging trends in the criminal justice system
5. Show comprehension of the need for interactions between the community and the criminal justice system that honors inclusion, diversity, and equity

BSCJ-FI Concentration Learning Outcomes:

1. Demonstrate ability to collect and preserve evidence, document rules of evidence, write accurate reports, and provide courtroom testimony
2. Conduct crime scene analyses with crime scene photography and reconstruction methods
3. Analyze crime scenes involving death, sex crimes, and traffic accident investigations using forensic methods
4. Conduct forensic analyses such as fingerprint detection and shoe/tire print casting
5. Demonstrate a foundational forensic investigative knowledge and skill base.
