PSYC432 Sports Psychology

The field of sports psychology examines the science and practice of psychology within sport, exercise, and human performance. Students in this course will analyze this multi-disciplinary field that spans psychology and sport science. Students will discuss the developmental and social aspects of sports participation. Students will examine the use of psychological skills for optimal performance of athletes and the well-being of athletes. The systemic issues associated with sports settings and organizations will also be identified. A wide range of topics related to sports psychology, such as competent and ethical practice, training required in the field, and scientific knowledge that informs and guides sports psychologists, will also be discussed.
