Master of Science in Management - Project Management Concentration

The Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Project Management (MSM-PM) program prepares the student with the skills and knowledge needed to become an effective project manager, including time/conflict management; teams and HR management; risk analysis and management; scheduling techniques; organizations and processes; cost, budgeting and scheduling; procurement and contracting; and control systems implementation. Program content covers key areas contained in A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), considered to be the industry standard by the Project Management.

 

MSM Program prepares the student to:

  • Evaluate the appropriate leadership and management actions needed across disciplines and in various global environments
  • Synthesize theory and practice in day-to-day managerial decision making and organizational change
  • Apply appropriate strategic, technical, operational, and ethical principles to solve organizational challenges and meet organizational goals and objectives.

MSM- PM Program competencies:

  • Identify the major elements of the Project Management Framework (PMF) and the significance of aligning projects with organizational strategic plans.
  • Develop a project charter to include the project scope and identify the project sponsor and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop a comprehensive project management plan to include elements from the 10 knowledge areas of project management processes.
  • Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to include the work package level of the project.
  • Explain the management of stakeholder engagement, including methods of communication with project stakeholders.
  • Evaluate change, scope, schedule, costs, and risk monitoring, as well as control strategies and processes. 
  • Determine the strategy for closing a project or phase, including all procurements and contractual obligations.
