MBA Prerequisite Knowledge

The Masters of Business Administration (MBA) is a professional degree intended for those who aspire to increase their level of responsibility within their chosen field. The courses in the MBA programs are rigorous. There is an expectation of a solid business background to succeed in some of the core MBA courses. Specifically, the MBA was designed with the assumption that the student has prior knowledge in the areas of accounting, finance, economics, and statistics .

For those entering an MBA program who do not have an undergraduate degree in business, Colorado Technical University may require the successful completion of 500-level foundation courses which serve as prerequisites to the respective 600-level accounting, finance, economics, and statistics courses. CTU will evaluate the undergraduate transcripts for all students entering the MBA program to determine if a student is required to take any or all of these courses. If the student has previously completed sufficient coursework in the areas stated above, the University may waive the prerequisites. Students who can provide evidence of significant professional experience in any or all of the areas may also have prerequisites waived. The courses also are available to students who wish to refresh their knowledge in these subject areas, even if they have completed previous courses in those subject areas.

Students who are required to complete any of the Master of Business Administration prerequisite courses are allowed a maximum of two attempts for each designated course. After two unsuccessful attempts for any of the courses, the student will be withdrawn from the MBA or Executive MBA program. Students are encouraged to work with the Student Advising department for alternative programs of study, or if they have additional questions regarding these courses.
